All's Not Quiet on the Medical Front

So, after we cancelled Jeffrey's surgery twice. Once because we were ill, and once because the doctor doing the surgery wouldn't do it at an earlier time (his office gave the hospital a time window of 9-11, which for older patients is fine, but a 20 month old? Yeah right.) Anyway, we decided it would be wiser to get a referral to a pediatric plastic surgeon and have the surgery done at a children's hospital.

Jeffrey's appointment with the plastic surgeon is next week, so we'll see how it goes!

Harrison decided to be the first child in our family to break a bone. He broke his pinkie hand bone...or if you want to get technical... his fifth metacarpal bone at the base. Initially when it happened we didn't think it was broke. I took him to the doctor's office and they had a set of x-rays done, looked at them, and told us it was just badly bruised.

When they got the results from the radiologist back on Monday morning, they called me to let me know that it really was broken. Poor kid. Went the whole weekend with a broken bone not being set! Granted, it was a nondisplaced broken bone, which honestly, if you're going to break a bone, is the type of break you want. You don't have to have surgery, and it's already reduced.

Anyway, we made an appointment with an ortho hand specialist, got another set of x-rays taken, since it had been unstable all weekend, and then had a splint put on it. The bone was still nondisplaced, which I was really glad about. So, in 6 weeks we go back to the hand specialist to make sure that it is healed.

So, that has been some of our medical excitement for the past month. ;) Yippee! Now that I think about it, we have had WAY too much medical excitement this month! Sheesh!
